“St
Croix is an island of geographic superlatives.”
— Vogue Magazine
St.
Croix is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, but in no way has
the feel of a large place. Our island is one of the few places left
in the Caribbean where you can truly escape the hustle of your every
day life. The pace is relaxed, the people are friendly, and the
waterfront still offers unspoiled white sand beaches that are not
overdeveloped with high rises. |
Many
special interest groups prize St. Croix for its top-notch facilities
that have escaped the crowds. Our island offers three golf courses,
one of them designed by famous golf course architect Robert Trent
Jones. Golf enthusiasts love St. Croix for the diversity of the
courses.
Scuba diving
on St. Croix is world-class, with the opportunity to dive shipwrecks,
coral reefs, and a wall with the deepest water this close to land
in the Caribbean. The Frederiksted Pier offers the most exciting
night dive imaginable with rare sea life and octopus that dazzle.
With so much to offer, divers love St. Croix!
St. Croix is
one of those rare places where history is everywhere. With the seven
different countries that have influenced St. Croix’s past,
the influence of France, Spain, and especially Denmark are still
prevalent in our culture, our architecture, our language, and our
culinary tastes. There are historic walking tours, self-guided driving
tours, and several attractions to explore that use original sugar
plantation buildings as their backdrop. Make sure you visit Estate
Whim Plantation Museum, St. Georges Village Botanical Gardens, and
Estate Little Princess, which is minutes from the Hibiscus. |

St.
Croix offers a wide variety of dining experiences, and you’ll
be thrilled to know that our little island has many world-class
chefs. The Hibiscus’ on-site restaurant H20 has received rave
reviews (read our customer's comments),
and we encourage you to explore other island favorites that use
Caribbean spices, herbs, fruits and vegetables in ways you’ve
probably never imagined! Lobster and Tuna, Mahi-Mahi and Wahoo are
fresh!
St. Croix’s
best-known export is the world famous and award-winning Cruzan Rum.
While on St. Croix, you are invited to tour the distillery, where
generations of the same St. Croix family have been making rum for
more than 200 years. You can experience the process of making rum,
taste the many flavors and varieties, and bring lots home with you
(it makes a great gift).
As a territory
of the United States, you’ll find comfort in the familiar
things. English is the primary language spoken on St. Croix, but
you’ll hear Spanish, Danish, French, and others while you
are visiting. Stores, restaurants, hotels and tour operators will
use U.S. currency, and your credit cards and travelers checks will
be welcome.
The best part
of a St. Croix vacation is the choices you will have: choose to
do nothing but lounge on the beach and you’ll have an incredibly
tranquil, relaxing vacation. Or, for the more adventurous, fill
your days with hiking, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing,
horseback riding, and kite surfing, and you’ll have the vacation
of your dreams!
The
Cruzans (also called Crucians)… are today numbered among the
friendliest of any Caribbean people.”
