Our Love Story
| Hibiscus Beach Resort’s new owners, John and Michelle Odato were living in the Catskill Mountains of New York State for 5 years when they first learned of a charming little boutique hotel on the North shore of the Caribbean island of St Croix. John is an Italian-American who has actually lived most of his life in the Caribbean, and Michelle is a native islander, having been born and raised in Trinidad, in the southern part of the Caribbean. John and Michelle owned and operated a busy little motel and family restaurant at the base of Belleayre Ski Mountain in the Catskill Mountains in New York state. They started their family in that pristine area, known for its appeal to skiers, hikers, hunters, and of course autumn leaf lovers. It was obvious to them that they were fortunate to be in such a beautiful and peaceful place, yet they both longed to return to the warmth of the Caribbean to raise their family, while still doing what they loved, working in Hospitality. Many visits to St Croix and the islands have become unexpected long-term stays; and during what seemed like a long Winter to them, John visited a friend in St Croix, who took him to dine at H2O Caribbean Bistro at the Hibiscus Beach Resort, where he was introduced to the Management. Several conversations led to an opportunity to purchase the establishment. John immediately told Michelle about their good fortune and before long, they had packed their bags, their belongings, and the entire family, and had made haste to St Croix, where they fell in love with the Hibiscus and its many guests. John saw much potential and with his background of business experience in the Caribbean, knew that he could improve upon what already was there, albeit in “ Island time” fashion. With on-going improvements and upgrades to the Hotel and Restaurant, and a staff of which they are very proud, within just a few months they were recognized with 8 awards of “The Best of 2006” from the Virgin Islands Daily News. The Odato’s enthusiasm continues, as they are still enchanted with Hibiscus and the island and culture of St Croix, and they strive to ensure that all their guests enjoy and remember the unique charm of St Croix and its peoples, and in particular, the warmth and sincerity of the staff of the Hibiscus Beach Resort. It is their desire that all guests leave Hibiscus and St Croix with cherished and fond memories, and with hopes of one day returning like so many. |
